How long has 100 (+) Women Who Care been in our area?
100(+) Women Who Care DuPage was started in February 2007. We meet quarterly in February, May, August and November and to date we have contributed well over $890,000.00 to local charities, $100 at a time!
What organizations can be presented?
In order to be considered, the organization must serve DuPage County. It must be a 501(c) 3 and no national or international charities, programs or organizations will be considered as our purpose is that the contributions stay local. Many national charities DO have local affiliates and that's OK- the purpose is to serve locally.
What is a 501(c)(3)?
A 501(c)(3) is defined as "exemptions that apply to corporations, and any community chest, fund or foundation, organized and operated exclusively for religious, charitable, scientific, testing for public safety, literary, educational purposes, to foster national or international amateur sports competition, promote the arts, or for the prevention of cruelty to children or animals." However, for the purposes of 100+ Women Who Care all groups up for consideration must be serve locally.
Is my contribution tax deductible?
Yes, your contribution is tax deductible if made payable to a 501(c) (3) organization. Checks and online contributions are made directly to the local organization NOT to 100+ Women Who Care.
How is the organization that receives the donation chosen?
Thanks to Covid, our method of presentation has changed and it's working well. Instead of drawing from the hat at the meeting, names are drawn ahead of time and each presenter submits a standardized form with information about their group. That information is shared with all of the members via e-mail ahead of the meetings for review and thought. The three women presenting will also read their presentation at the meeting, have a chance to answer questions and then we will vote. Each women present then votes for their first choice by a ballot handed out at check-in when they arrive. The votes are counted, the winning group announced, everyone writes out their checks or makes their payment on-line, and we're done! One lucky group will be thrilled when they find out they will soon receiving an unsolicited windfall!
What if I cannot attend a meeting?
If a member cannot attend a meeting, she can either: give her check to a friend to bring with her to the meeting, (preferred), mail it in ahead of time with the 'pay to the order of' part left blank (preferred) or mail it in after the winner is announced. If a member sends in her check in with a friend, the friend will write in the name of the charity that is chosen on the check and give it to the organizers on the member's behalf. (This is her proxy vote.) In addition, an on-line option is usually available as most charities accommodates credit card payments
How long do the meetings last?
The meetings are wonderfully short, less than an hour. We start at 7 p.m. but gather at 6:30 for informal time together. We are done well before 8 p.m. Some members do enjoy staying after for a beverage/food at the Holiday Inn's restaurant or bar.
Can I bring a friend to the meeting?
Yes! Anyone can come to observe a meeting, but in order to vote she will need to sign a Commitment Form and become a member before voting at the meeting. We love new members!
